What VPN should I use

People have been asking me which VPN I use…

Actually, that isn’t a common question, I just like pretending to be an influencer and using their phrases. But I’m “growing as a person” and that’s why I posted this as text, not a Notes.app screenshot.

I don’t use a VPN to protect from nefarious hackers like the adverts say. As a big time TV watcher I want to sneak past geo-blocks or prevent my ISP (or anyone else) from snooping in on what I’m looking at/downloading. (As a fancy little fabric mannequin, I don’t need to be judged for streaming Selvedge Seamstresses 7 or Pintuck Pleasures , I just… umm… but I digress 😉 )

This is based on what I personally use / have used. It isn’t an exhaustive list, and it’s what has worked for us. There might be better, faster, cheaper VPNs – but if I haven’t used them I don’t know if I’d recommend them. I haven’t encountered a VPN that gets around all the geo-blocks by every service (e.g. TVNZ on-demand), so your mileage may vary.

VPNs I’ve used:

NordVPN

I use Nord currently. My family members use Nord currently. Some of us use Mac, some Windows, some Android, some iOS. Quick, easy, and well priced for us. In my experience it easily passes the “could my parents/insert-non-technical-stereotype use it?” test.

ExpressVPN

I used these guys before Nord. They’re awesome. at the time I used them they got 10play (AU) working overseas – if you need that, test it with the free trial. They have more features than Nord and are just as easy to use, but they cost a bit more – I got a deal on Nord so I went with them. (Their router setup is pretty tempting too)

Note: I’m not paid for these, they’re just what I’ve used.

Pure, Vyper, Onion, etc might be awesome – if you’ve used them and they got you around some blockages, let me know as I’m always interested to know what works where.
